Galvanized*
Galvanized is a Zinc coating that is applied to the steel substrate in a hot dip bath at the steel mill. This coating ensures corrosion resistance and long life. Paint Grip*
Paint Grip is pre-treated at the mill for subsequent painting in the as-received condition. The sheet goes through a phospatizing process which produces a deposit of hydrated zync on the galvanized surface, resulting in a dull gray appearance. This coating provides a good adherent base for painting, and also extends the life of the painted surface. Paint Grip is intended to be painted and the unfinished surface may weather unevenly*

Copper
Copper has been used in a variety of exterior applications for centuries. This unfinished material won't rust and is easy to tool. Left unfinished, copper ages with a natural patina. This is a premium material with a high cost, but it comes with time tested durability and a one of a kind look.

Aluminum* and Stainless Steel
Aluminum and Stainless steel substrates are also available. These materials have a high resistance to corrosion and are often used in coastal areas where rust is a greater concern. Both of these substrates have a higher cost than traditional steel roofing.

Finish Maintenance and Cleaning
Removing surface build up from your metal roof not only improves appearance, but also increases finish life. Cleaning solutions are easily mixed from readily available ingredients. One cup of common detergent, or household ammonia, in five gallons of water at room temperature is recommended. Apply with a soft rag, mop, or a sponge. “ Solvent containing cleaners (example: Fantastic or Formula 409) are very effective and can used without concern.” Mildew or fungus that cannot be removed with the cleaners above can be treated with household bleach in a concentration of one gallon per five gallons of water along with one cup of detergent. Rinsing the roof surface with clean water should complete detergent or bleach cleaning.
The following documents provided by coil coatings manufacturers have more information for specific finishes and conditions.
